My wife also called me from makati that they also experienced major slow down on their internet access. She said a PLDT personnel mentioned that multiple fiber connections of PLDT was having an issue at the moment. No additional details was given.

At first, I thought it was just my Internet Cafe connection but when I came home and experienced the same, I then decided to call 172 for PLDT techsupport but I dont even hear a ringing tone on the other end. So, I have no choice but to wait that the Internet speed will be back to normal tonight. Well, hopefully.

You see I started with exact capital and I bought a mixed of second hand and brand new computer units back then. After a year I felt the effect. Some customers especially those hardcore computer gamers doesn’t want to sit on the terminal with old computers that resulted I did not maximize profit. I also haven’t thought that web2.0 would really make Internet Cafe customers busy and again older units somehow won’t let them maximize their usage since websites like friendster, myspace and imeem would require faster computers and higher RAM.

It could have been a different story if I had more cash when I put this Icafe. Probably, I bought much better and brand new computer units that would extend the life span of my Icafe business in the location where customers knew fast from slow computers.

My 4 years of running the business was a great experience though. I came to know more about my capabilities as a person, I’ve seen a lot of real life stories and of course at least I can share knowledge to future Internet cafe owners.

To summarize this entry, as much as possible don’t start your Internet Cafe Business if you only have exact capital because there will be always some unforseen issues along the way. Buying of second hand computer units should be out the plan.

This is due to profit went down for the last 3 months and rental fee will increase again. BUT wait the decision I made was one month ago. It is true that I will close the Internet Shop in Binan but will open it again in San Pedro and this time its in residential and a little bit commercial area.

Right now I’m packing up and anytime this week I’ll moved to the new location. I’m also going to share tips and real experiences I had during those 4 years and hopefully future entrepreneurs can learn something from my post. Check this blog again.

Senior Server Admin and technical support not included since they are part of the server package. The first guy started 3 years ago while the other one joined late last year. They been have a good employees but sometimes at the back of my mind I asked questions whether they are dedicated to their work or not.  This is because I noticed they usually sacrifice their work in exchange to have drinking session with their friends.  You know things like they have the whole night enjoying and drinking till they drop and the next thing I know I have a text messages informing me they won’t be able to show up the next day. I’m not against with this because that’s how they live their lives though I just hope I can always understand them or face the consequence that they might lose their job.

I tought we can immediately just checkout those booth and do some malling but ALAS it took me 3 hours just to fall in line and get those gaming posters. I did check out also the booth of a certain company who does continues INK because I’ve been canvassing a good Continues INK kit since last month but since school will be over soon I’ll probably wait till June this year.

A team was formed to crack down businesses( and icafe included) who uses pirated Microsoft Products and other BSA software like adobe, etc. This group gave a grace period of 30 days to allow businesses and Icafes to license their software especially Operating System and MsOffice last August and it ended yesterday. Most Icafe’s owners decided to close their shops for the past days though some of them took the risk and hoping those MIB or NBI don’t show up infront of thier shops. I did the same. Most big Internet shops here in our area were closed for the past days so our icafe were always full. Students are lining up. Feeling nervous though.

Linspire OS

Getting Licensed Operating System is part and should always be part of the Business investment but personally speaking I can only afford to get single license like for every 4 months. With the raiding situation I’ll be installing more Linspire OS (formerly Lindows). I already tested it on our two personal computers on our shop and its working okay minus the games. Basically, It will be for surfing, yahoo, msn, aol chatting, typying and music listening purpose. It’s better this way than risking the business besides my original business plan is not relying on the Icafe profits. Next task is to explore the gaming side of linspire and its possible to run some online games because I saw another company who specilized in runing windows games on linux or linspire environment.

I know I haven’t that active here but it doesn’t mean I’m not active in other aspect of my daily routines. Now I’m here I have so much to talk about.

First as usual I’m very much busy in managing of our I Café. I’ve been organizing and thinking on how to make those works easier for all of us. Some might think that the daily Internet Café operation is easy but the truth is it is not. Think of a very busy location where students and other workers on the go need an attention while they are inside the shop. Think of users who are very beginners in using the computer yet they are asking for instructions that are advanced on their computer skill level. Of course we would like to give them a hand as often as they would want. Not to mention the printing, cd burning etc. Problems have been regularly being noted.

Mobilehive Internet Café is Hiring

We’re not big yet but we need people. Just this afternoon I interviewed a Guy from Kalookan City and met with him in Megamall. Well, he might be the guy for the Job. He will be visiting the Shop in Binan this Saturday. Opps.. Isn’t it weird he is from Kalookan while the shop is in Binan Laguna? The answer is he is willing to be relocated  cool

Adding More PCs

I just setup another PC yesterday. We will test it first before offering it to our customers. Will be adding another one if I can get more funds for it.

The first day of school especially here in Biñan (Near University of Perpetual Help) boosted my confidence that I made the right choice of location when I was still searching for an Internet Shop Location. As early as 9:00AM while we are still cleaning the shop students are coming in and filling up the workstations. We cannot even accommodate everyone. Not even rental rates matters. I hope today’s episode will become a routine every day because I would love to call this Internet cafe a business not just a playground.

This is my attempt to be different from the other nearby Internet cafes and at the same time making easier for customers incase they need to have a break from their internet activities. The shop is selling different C2 flavors and other chichirias. So far its selling nicely and at this time my wife is buying more supplies.
