I won a Nintendo Wii by trying Globe Bid Service

Author: Nerbie Category: General Topics

It started with a curiosity. The next thing I knew I won a Nintendo Wii. I think Nintendo price would be around 12k - 14k. I’m not really into this kind of game, you know the bidding thing but when Globe made a mass broadcast few months ago for the TAWAD NA service from Paysetter International I gave it a try. I just bid several lowest numbers and the next thing I got a system sms reply informing me that my bid was not unique. A simple rule should be remembered was inorder for you to be declared as the winner for that day you should have picked the lowest unique number before 12Midnight. During my first few attempt I can say it’s a waste of effort because all numbers I texted were not unique. More or less I spent like 15 pesos. After that I somehow forgot the service.

Came April 30, 2008 a sms notification got into my phone inbox. The item for the day was a Nintendo Wii. There I got tempted to burn few pesos. While I’m on my way to my Internet Shop I texted few numbers and I somehow got 4 unique bids. I thought that was it but later in the afternoon 3 of my unique bid got outbid. So, I told myself if by 6pm my remaining unique bid is still there I’m going to bid all numbers going down till the smallest bid which is P1.00 just to make sure. Now there you go I just got it. Someone who also bid might just missed bidding the unique bid I got or maybe this item might just be for me or for my kids. I already talked with the company who is handling the service today and they got my details. Right now I’m just waiting for them to inform me the date when to pick the prize as of today the prize is still not there at their office.

2008 Aliwan Festivals

Author: Nerbie Category: Photography

It was my first to witness event like the 2008 Aliwan Festival earlier today. I went there with my kumpare yuga for a photo shoot and it was all worth it. Originally, my plan was to go with the digitalphotographer.com guys since my kumpare seems to be always busy but I still called him up last night and asked him if he can go to the event with me. Fortunately, he has no other engagement.

We went to Cultural Center of the Philippines past 10am and decided just to kill time chit chatting while waiting for those festivals. Later in the afternoon the 27 festivals coming from different locations and provinces were starting to arrive. That made us busy photo shooting. It’s hot in the field but again its all worth it. Colorful customes were everywhere and all you have to do is ask them for a photo shoot and press that button. We then headed back home as soon as we felt a little bit tired. I just dont know what happened when rain started to pour.

As of this time I was only able to upload one photo. Check it out here

Passage to a new world

Author: Nerbie Category: General Topics

Whew! I finally got the spirit to blog here. Yeah I know it’s almost a month since the last post. Let’s just say I needed to focus on some important things (Family, Business, Blog Sites and probably photography stuff). I just believe there are a lot of things that is in store for me this year and I’m already seeing it coming. There is also one thing in my life that seems to fall apart but I’m hoping it can still be fixed or maybe it’s just me.

Last April seems to be a month of passage to a whole new world for me. The nanny of my two kids for 7 years and also our companion slash nanny during high school and college for more or less 10 years decided to leave the family and went back to her home town in Tawi-Tawi. I felt sad with her decision not to mention I was the one who accompanied her to the Pier in Manila last April 19, 2008

My two kids learned more and more on how to play MMORPG called Perfect World online which somehow becomes our means of father and kids bonding.

I convinced few people to put up also their blog sites and help them profit from it. I launched numerous blog sites continue my adventure my google adsense. Aside from adsense I finally got the chance to profit from Linksworth, Bidvertiser and Kontera.

That’s all for this post.

Globe Mobile Internet

Author: Nerbie Category: General Topics

When my family and some friends (yuga, Gen went to Nasugbu last March 21, 2008 for 2 days adventure and swimming, more often than not we been accessing to Internet by using our mobile phones. While we were at it we had this topic on why Globe mobile internet service is a little bit expensive compare to Smart P10 for 30 minutes access. All we know its a matter of marketing decision on both Mobile Operator Giants.

I wanted to switch to smart for the reason that it is becoming a need for me to access the internet whenever I’m on mobile. Since I’m a subcriber to Globe Plan for the last 5 years its hard to change mobile number so what I did I just purchased a smart prepaid sim for surfing needs. However, today I read from a paper that Globe made their Mobile Internet access very flexible. You can now choose between TIME BASED RATE or PAY PER KB. Time based rate is P5 per 15mins while the default Pay per KB is P0.15 per KB. All you have to do is to know the following txt commands :

To activate Time Based rate text :
TIME to 1111

To know the status of your current option of your mobile internet text :
STATUS to 1111

More INFO text :
INFO to 1111

Please note that if in any case your internet browsing got disconnected even before the 15mins that would be consider another P5 for the next 15mins.

Tough Week - The first for 2008

Author: Nerbie Category: General Topics

I had a tough week this week. For the last 96 hours I only slept like less than 24 hours. It all started last Sunday when I found out one of our web hosting server that serves 100++ small to medium websites had some corruption on its Linux file system. With that scenario I decided to do a Linux OS reload. Basically, I needed to get the latest backup of all accounts on it. It took 12 hours to finish everything. Later that night admin pull the plug for reformatting and OS reload. Most likely I needed to be up the entire night till Monday morning for decision matter.

Came Monday morning server were ready and started to restore accounts from backup. It could have been the end of the story before lunch but I found out the datacenter admin did a very wrong moved when he uses different IP addresses for the server. Of course domain names need to propagate. That made some accounts looks down and not visible on clients Internet connection. So, that was it. It’s very stressful when clients were mad for they cannot send email and browse their websites. Most likely everything went its original state on Monday evening.

That’s not the end of the story. Came Tuesday afternoon, another server suddenly showing a very high CPU load. Imagine its always 98%. No matter what I do it keep on going back to 98%. With it web browsing and email retrieving and sending were affected. The server is up but it’s very slow. Again clients were calling and texting left and right. Of course Im replying to them and picking up the mobile phone though sometimes I just can’t since I’m also working on the server. My server admin abroad also helps me on the issue. He did some root kit hunter checking, suspecting the server was comprised. It took several hours figuring out what went wrong. Until it was put to around 60% cpu usage. The server was clean except some poorly code php scripts which was used by some clients but cpu usage was still abnormal.

Around 3AM (wednesday) I decided to ask the datacenter to do a hardware check. Basically, we need to pull the plug. Again I need to be up waiting for the result from the hardware testing. Past 5:1AM Bingo! The culprit? Cooling fan of the server was not on its top condition anymore. After replacing it server works normal. CPU usage down to 10% or even less. What a week I would say.

So you think it’s over? Not quite. I had this new client from Korea, A Filipino whose website is currently hosted on our newer server.. His website barely a month old was a hit with mostly OFWs visitors in Korea and canada. The site started with a 400MB Hard disk space and 10gig bandwidth. Within a week it used up the 10 gig bandwidth. I upgraded the account to 50 GIG. As of today it’s nearly hitting its bandwidth limit. To make the story short, the site was affecting the normal operation of the server. Of course some clients were affected since server load goes up during pick hours with this site around. Ive decided to put the site down temporarily and guess what? since my mobile number was posted on the suspended page, people abroad calling me and texting me asking why the site went down. Grabeh! I cant barely handle it since I needed to explain to them that I already talked with the owner and informing them that I only do what the owner of the site wanted us to do.

Today I ordered a new dedicated server for this account since the owner allowed me to move his account to a new server. Hopefully, it will turn out well tonight if I can get the server.

That’s all for now.

I got my family name domain name.

Author: Nerbie Category: Photography

I’ve decided to get mulsid.com and make a subdomain out of it. You may check my newly domain http://alwell.mulsid.com. and I’ll say this now I’m going to be popular someday hehehhee. Call that domain my photoblog. Since I’m a very newbie to photography I don’t consider the domain my professional photo site unlike most professionals out there their name becomes their porfolio site.

Im looking forward to do more photo shooting though At the moment I can’t afford to go on travelling. Nearer places would be fine for now.

Digital Photography Glossary

Author: Nerbie Category: Photography

I feel like I’m a student again because for several days now I’ve been doing research and reading articles about photography on the internet. One of my favorite read is the Digital Photography Glossary. I’ve been reading it over and over again as some of the terms and explanations are a little bit complicated and I need to go over again as I sometimes forget it. I think for now, aside from continuing updating some of my blog sites in a regular day interval I will be occupied with learning the basic of Digital Photography. Yes, you heard it right, the BASIC as i’m a newbie to this kind of world. The Digital Photography World.
